If unicorns wore socks I am pretty sure they would look like these. This is my first selfish knitting project for a while AND the very first pair of socks I’ve ever knit for myself. I’m really bummed its still stinking hot in Australia because I reeeeally want to wear them. I’ve been watching Harry Potter and trying to trick myself into thinking I’m in London or Scotland and its really cold & snowing but it’s not working.
I came across this Knit Picks Chroma fingering yarn while browsing for the Knit Picks Stroll Tweed I used for Mum’s socks and fell in love with it. I also really liked Vermont and Wildflower colour ways but went with soft rock. I see they have sold out of the fingering weight in soft rock on the Knit Picks website but you can still get it over at Great British Yarns.
The pattern I’ve used is the Slip Stitch Heel Basic Sock Pattern from Wendy Johnson's book, Socks from the Toe Up. I have both her Socks from the Toe Up books now and am pleased that the second one I purchased does indeed have toddler sizes. I’ve order some more of the Knit Picks Stroll Tweed and have purchased some more lovely 4ply from Bendigo Woollen Mills so I can get cracking on Eddie and Wal’s winter socks. Its going to be warm toes all round at our place this year!
Unicorn Socks are Ravelled here.
As well as planning my families knitwear needs for this winter I've also been thinking about my winter sewn wardrobe. My pre-baby winter clothes are still a little too small and last winters clothes are too big SO I get to make a new winter wardrobe! Does anyone else plan their winter makes this far in advance?
