We spent the Easter long weekend at my parents cabin that sits on a relatives land along the Loddon river. Its a lovely spot with wide open space on one side and the river and bush on the other. While we were out there the moon did its eclipse thingi and turned red- pretty impressive. Ed loves wandering around the paddock while we follow. He also loves the wood stack which freaks me out a little- lucky its Autumn otherwise I'd be petrified a snake will crawl out. The 3 of us snugged up in the Jayco and had a great time climbing in and out of the beds at the end. Actually that should say Ed had a great time climbing in and out of the beds at the end. I do remember loving doing that as a kid too. I spent most of my time sitting by the wood heater in the annex drinking tea and knitting a little hat for my nephew who is due in the world sometime in the next two weeks. I can't wait to meet him! The hat is the same as the one Ed is wearing- its this one here by Hilary Frazier. I am so in love with knitting this hat! Its such a quick satisfying knit. I did Ed's amongst other knitting projects and it took me about a week but the second one I knit in a day while out the river. I just need to pop a pompom on it and its good to go. I used Bendigo Woollen Mills luxury 10ply for both hats and the pompom on Ed's is Quince and Co Lark in honey. I've Ravelled Ed's hat here.
When we got home I had another crack at making hot cross buns. These turned out a bit better than the first lot I made but still not the best. I made a smashing batch a couple of years ago but can't for the life of me find the same recipe I used- so annoying! Anyway, there are no crosses on this lot because I didn't think they were going to work so I didn't do that step. They are more like fruit buns rather than hot cross buns. If you heat them up and put heaps of butter on them they do actually taste pretty good.
I hope you enjoyed your Easter and got to spend it with your loved ones.
P.S I love that my Ma puts fairy lights in the tress out the river. I also love that she still has the Noddy pillowcase she made for my brother when he was about Ed's age. Ed loves it so much. I managed to convince her to let us take it home so I can have it Ed can have it on his bed.
